Norway’s Ytre Steinsund Bridge Project Awarded to Skanska

(IN BRIEF) Skanska has been awarded a contract worth NOK 800M (SEK 800M) by Vestland County to build the new Ytre Steinsund bridge in Solund municipality, Norway. The bridge will be 811 meters long, situated 50 meters above sea level, and consist of five spans. It will replace the existing ferry connection and provide a fixed link between the Island of Ytre Sula and the neighboring island of Sula. The project is set to begin construction in the first quarter of 2024 and is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2026. The bridge will be environmentally certified according to BREEAM Infrastructure standards.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 30-Jun-2023 — /EuropaWire/ —  Skanska (STO: SKA-B), a leading global project development and construction group, announces that it has recently secured a contract with Vestland County to construct the new Ytre Steinsund bridge in Solund municipality, Norway. The contract, valued at NOK 800M (approximately SEK 800M), will be included in Skanska’s Nordic order bookings for the second quarter of 2023.

The project entails the design and construction of an 811-meter-long bridge, situated approximately 50 meters above sea level, featuring five spans. The new bridge will replace the existing Daløy-Haldorsneset ferry connection, providing a fixed link for residents of the Island of Ytre Sula to the neighboring island of Sula and the municipal center of Hardbakke.

Emphasizing sustainability, the project aims to achieve the BREEAM Infrastructure certification at the Very Good level for its design and construction.

Following the contract signing, detailed engineering will commence immediately, with construction work scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2024. The project is expected to reach completion in the fourth quarter of 2026.
