Skanska to Deliver Modern Amenities and Technology at Virginia State University’s New Academic Commons Building

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 13-Jan-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Skanska (STO: SKA-B), a leading global project development and construction group, has announced that it has signed a contract with Virginia State University to build a state-of-the-art academic commons building in Petersburg, Virginia, USA. The contract, worth a total of USD 103 million, or approximately SEK 1 billion / EUR 95 million, will be included in the US order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2022.

The new academic commons building, which is set to be approximately 53,000 square meters in size, will feature a wide range of amenities and facilities for students, faculty, and staff. The facility will house academic classrooms, media laboratories, broadcast production labs, multipurpose auditoriums, art and design department ceramics labs and studios, and distance learning technologies. Additionally, the building will include faculty offices and support space, as well as an elevated running track, basketball courts, and a natatorium complete with a six-lane, 25-yard competition pool.

The project also includes the demolition of Harris Hall and Daniel Gymnasium, making way for the new academic commons building. The new facility will serve as a hub for student activity, learning, and collaboration, and will provide a modern and comfortable environment for the university community.
