Skanska to Construct Innovative Wooden-Framed Hospital Building in Karlstad, Sweden

(IN BRIEF) Skanska has entered into an agreement with Region Värmland to construct a groundbreaking new reception building at the Central Hospital, CSK, located in Karlstad, Sweden. Valued at approximately SEK 740 million, this contract will be recorded as part of Sweden’s order bookings in the third quarter of 2023. This project represents the initial phase of a comprehensive development plan for CSK in Karlstad, involving five separate projects. The new reception building, spanning six floors along with a fan room floor and basement, will encompass roughly 14,000 square meters and will primarily serve day care and simpler medical cases. What sets this building apart is that it will be the first hospital structure in Sweden to feature a wooden frame, with a recycled brick exterior facade. Construction preparations will commence in the fall, with the main construction phase scheduled to begin in March 2024, aiming for completion by late 2026.
