(PRESS RELEASE) FARNBOROUGH, 7-Jun-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — BAE Systems (LON: BA), a British multinational defence, security, and aerospace company, is proud to announce the successful launch of HIVE Portsmouth Hub, a dynamic shared space designed to facilitate collaboration among local charitable and voluntary organizations. This significant achievement has been made possible through BAE Systems’ generous funding.

The hub serves as a catalyst for diverse charities, social enterprises, and voluntary organizations to join forces, share resources, and optimize operational costs. By fostering collaboration, the hub will amplify the impact of joint projects, ultimately enhancing social outcomes for the local community.

Stand Up Portsmouth, a commendable charity founded by dedicated parents and carers of children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, is among the organizations benefitting from this exceptional space. The hub provides a secure, inclusive environment where children and their families can gather, engage, and play without judgment.

To support the growth of the voluntary sector in Portsmouth, BAE Systems has contributed a generous donation of £250,000 to HIVE Portsmouth. This funding has facilitated the establishment and operation of two new hubs, with the first hub already situated at Aggie Weston House on Edinburgh Road. Identifying a suitable location for the second hub in the northern region of the city is currently underway. Additionally, BAE Systems remains committed to offering extensive support, mentoring, and coaching services to the network of charities affiliated with HIVE.

The partnership between BAE Systems and HIVE Portsmouth dates back to July 2021, marking a fruitful collaboration that highlights our mutual dedication to cultivating a vibrant community and encouraging collaboration among local organizations.

“Portsmouth is really important to BAE Systems and our employees so we’re exceptionally proud of the active role we play in the local community. We hope the launch of this Hub, the first of two, will make a difference to how local charities and organisations can work together in the future. By sharing resources and close collaboration, they can develop and grow, and ultimately help more people within our local community.” – Scott Jamieson, Managing Director, BAE Systems Maritime Services.

“For a long time the sector has been crying out for a space such as this, a place people can go to share ideas and make connections, somewhere which can be used as needed to help them continue to provide essential services to the people of Portsmouth. It has been truly inspiring to see how people have come together from across the city to lend support. Our former CEO and Strategic Advisor Louise Wilders and Julie Hawkins were instrumental in setting the wheels in motion. We are so grateful to BAE Systems, to SSE who kindly donated so much of the furniture, to the Yardboiz who helped us move in, to Incuhive who have worked alongside us to set up the space and to many, many more who have offered guidance and practical support to help make our vision a reality.” – Revd Canon Bob White, Chair of HIVE Portsmouth Trustees.
