Experienced Leader Wolfgang Metze Joins Deutsche Telekom as MD of Private Customers

(IN BRIEF) Wolfgang Metze has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Private Customers at Deutsche Telekom in Germany, starting from August 1, 2023. He will join the Telekom Deutschland management team and report directly to Srini Gopalan, Board Member for Germany. Metze will be succeeding André Almeida, who will be moving to Group Development within the company. In his new role, Metze will be responsible for overseeing Deutsche Telekom’s fixed-network and mobile communications business, including the fiber-optic roll-out, Customer Experience, and Magenta Entertainment (TV). With over 20 years of experience in various management positions, including as Chief Consumer Officer at Teléfonica Deutschland, Metze brings a wealth of expertise to the role.

(PRESS RELEASE) BONN, 7-Jun-2023 — /EuropaWire/ —  Deutsche Telekom (ETR: DTE), one of the world’s leading integrated telecommunications companies and the largest telecommunications provider in Europe by revenue, announces that Wolfgang Metze (50) is set to assume the role of Managing Director of Private Customers at Deutsche Telekom in Germany, effective August 1, 2023. This appointment will make him an integral part of the Telekom Deutschland management team, reporting directly to Srini Gopalan, Board Member for Germany at Telekom.

Metze will succeed André Almeida, who will transition to Group Development within the company as of August 1. In his new position, Almeida will oversee Investment Management and serve as Tribe Lead US, reporting to Thorsten Langheim, Board Member for USA & Group Development.

As the Director of Private Customers, Wolfgang Metze will be responsible for managing Deutsche Telekom’s fixed-network and mobile communications business. This includes formulating and executing the strategy for fiber-optic roll-out in Germany, as well as overseeing Customer Experience and Magenta Entertainment (TV) initiatives.

With over 20 years of experience in various management roles, including over a decade leading consumer-focused business areas, Metze brings a wealth of expertise to his new position. Until June 2022, he served as Chief Consumer Officer (CCO) and was a member of the Executive Board at Teléfonica Deutschland. Metze voluntarily left this role approximately one year ago to seek new challenges.

Having started his career at Deutsche Telekom/T-Mobile Deutschland in 2000, Wolfgang Metze has a background as a diploma businessman and trained banker. Prior to joining Teléfonica in 2017, he held the position of SVP Consumer Business at Telekom Deutschland.
