BAE Systems wins contract to upgrade U.S. Navy’s afloat networks

(IN BRIEF) BAE Systems has won a $4.1 billion contract from the US Navy for its Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) program. BAE will compete with seven other companies for work on the 10-year indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity program. The CANES program is part of the Navy’s modernization plan to upgrade its afloat networks, and BAE will be responsible for procurement, production, and maintenance of afloat network devices, software, and laboratory equipment for surface, shore, and submarine platforms.

(PRESS RELEASE) FARNBOROUGH, 2-Feb-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — BAE Systems (LON: BA), a British multinational defence, security, and aerospace company, has secured a $4.1 billion contract from the Naval Information Warfare Systems Command (NAVWAR) for its Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) program. The 10-year indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) program will see BAE compete with seven other companies for work.

The CANES program represents a crucial part of the Navy’s modernization plan, upgrading cybersecurity, communications, command and control, and intelligence systems aboard ships. Under the contract, BAE will provide procurement, production, and maintenance services for afloat network devices, spares, software, and laboratory equipment for surface, shore, and submarine platforms.

For the past eight years, BAE has been supporting the CANES program by sourcing, testing, and delivering production units for large deck surface ships in Summerville, South Carolina.
