Webuild Announces Seasoned Leader Gianni De Gennaro as Chairman of Eurolink for Sicily-Calabria Bridge Project

(IN BRIEF) Webuild has appointed Gianni De Gennaro as the chairman of Eurolink, the General Contractor responsible for constructing the Sicily-Calabria Bridge in southern Italy. De Gennaro’s selection is based on his extensive experience in both the public and private sectors, as well as his integrity and dedication to security and law enforcement. Previously, he held significant positions such as head of the police force, director general for public security, and chairman of Leonardo (formerly Finmeccanica). The Eurolink consortium, led by Webuild, includes international partners Sacyr, Condotte d’Acqua, CMC, IHI, and Consorzio ACI. This consortium was awarded the public tender due to its expertise in constructing strategic infrastructure, which is expected to drive economic growth in Italy.

Drawing from a wealth of managerial expertise in both the public and private sectors, De Gennaro has garnered extensive knowledge in public institutions, corporate governance, and the banking industry. His notable career includes positions such as head of the police force and director general for public security, chief of staff at the Interior Ministry, and general manager of the Security Intelligence Department (DIS). Moreover, during the government of Mario Monti, De Gennaro served as undersecretary of state before the Council of Ministers, overseeing intelligence and security services. From 2013 to 2020, he served as chairman of Leonardo (formerly known as Finmeccanica) before assuming the role of chairman of Banca Popolare di Bari from 2020 to 2022. Additionally, since 2013, he has held the esteemed position of chairman at Centro Studi Americani.
