Webuild Group’s Swiss Subsidiary Wins Record-Breaking Highway Maintenance Project in Ticino

(IN BRIEF) CSC Costruzioni, the Swiss subsidiary of the Webuild Group, along with its consortium partners, has been awarded a €157 million highway maintenance contract in the Canton of Ticino, Switzerland. The contract is part of the “USTRA EP 28 Gentilino-Lamone” project and involves modernizing and performing extraordinary maintenance work on over six kilometers of the N2 highway. The project will last for about four years and will focus on rebuilding and modernizing 27 structures, underpasses, bridges, and related works. The work will be carried out without interrupting the flow of traffic, and 80% of the asphalt used will come from recycled materials.

(PRESS RELEASE) MILAN, 1-Aug-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — CSC Costruzioni, the Swiss subsidiary of the Webuild Group, and its consortium partners have won the N2 Gentilino-Lamone (Lot 202) highway maintenance contract worth €157 million, the biggest of its kind in 30 years in the Canton of Ticino, Switzerland. CSC will lead the consortium with a 35-percent stake. The other partners include Implenia, Edilstrada, Matteo Muttoni Costruzioni and Casada.

Commissioned by the Federal Roads Office (USTRA), the contract is part of the “USTRA EP 28 Gentilino-Lamone” project to modernise and perform extraordinary maintenance work on a little more than six kilometres of the N2 highway from the north portal of the Gentilino tunnel to Lamone, including an interchange at the north of Lugano. Lot 202 comprises the main civil works such as rebuilding and modernising 27 structures, underpasses, bridges and related works.

Work is to last nearly four years with the involvement of up to 120 people, both directly and indirectly.

The executive phase of the project will be challenging because it will proceed without interrupting the flow of traffic. Some 80% of the asphalt to be used in the repaving of the stretch of highway will come from recycled materials.

CSC is involved in a series of highway projects between Milan and Gotthard, including the maintenance and adjustment of nearly two kilometres of highway between Chiasso and Lugano, also in the Canton of Ticino.
