TotalEnergies and Petronas’ Gentari Renewables to Drive Renewable Energy Transition in Asia-Pacific

(IN BRIEF) TotalEnergies and Petronas’ Gentari Renewables have announced a strategic collaboration to develop renewable energy projects in the Asia Pacific region. The partnership aims to leverage TotalEnergies’ expertise in renewable energy and Petronas’ clean energy solutions to drive the energy transition. The first project under this collaboration is the 100MW Pleasant Hills Solar Project in Queensland, Australia, which will supply low-carbon electricity to gas production and processing facilities. TotalEnergies aims to expand its renewable electricity generation capacity to 35 GW by 2025 and 100 GW by 2030, positioning itself as a major player in wind and solar energy production.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 26-Jun-2023 — /EuropaWire/ —  TotalEnergies (EPA:TTE), a global multi-energy company with over 100,000 employees and presence in more than 130 countries as well as the world’s 3rd-largest low-carbon LNG company, has announced it signed a Strategic Collaboration Agreement with Gentari Renewables Sdn Bhd, Petronas’ clean energy solutions company, to develop renewable energy projects in the Asia Pacific region. This agreement strengthens the partnership between TotalEnergies and Petronas in the energy transition, building upon their existing collaboration in the upstream sector across 8 countries worldwide.

The agreement, signed during the Energy Asia Conference in Kuala Lumpur, will see TotalEnergies and Gentari jointly develop the 100MW Pleasant Hills Solar Project in Queensland, Australia. The project aims to provide low-carbon electricity to the gas production and processing facilities at the Roma field. Both TotalEnergies and Petronas hold a 27.5% stake in Gladstone LNG.

Julien Pouget, Senior Vice President Asia Pacific for Exploration & Production and Renewables at TotalEnergies, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are pleased to join forces with our long-standing partner Petronas, through Gentari, to deploy renewable energies in Asia-Pacific and decarbonize our own facilities. This Strategic Collaboration Agreement allows us to implement concrete action plans, from eliminating methane emissions to energy efficiency and electrification with low carbon power. The Pleasant Hills Solar Project is a significant step towards achieving these goals.”

Sushil Purohit, CEO of Gentari, emphasized the importance of collaboration for decarbonization efforts: “To achieve our joint decarbonization goals, it is critical to harness all our capabilities, capacity, and resources efficiently. Gentari’s latest partnership with TotalEnergies will provide a new momentum in our net-zero efforts and help build the right ecosystem for growth in clean energy and net-zero solutions.”
