(IN BRIEF) Avient Corporation and BASF have partnered to introduce colored grades of Ultrason® high-performance polymers to the global market. The collaboration combines BASF’s Ultrason® polyarylethersulfones (PAES) as the base polymer with Avient’s Colorant Chromatics™ expertise in high-temperature color formulations. This collaboration will provide comprehensive technical support and enable customers in various industries to meet design trends, technical requirements, and color standards more efficiently. The colored Ultrason® polymers also promote a sustainable lifestyle by facilitating the creation of reusable and visually appealing household and catering articles. Avient will formulate and market the colored grades as Colorant Chromatics™ made with Ultrason® by BASF.

(PRESS RELEASE) CLEVELAND, United States, and LUDWIGSHAFEN, Germany, 26-Jun-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Avient Corporation, a premier global provider of specialized polymer materials, services and solutions, and BASF (ETR: BAS), the world’s largest chemical producer,  have joined forces to introduce colored grades of Ultrason® high-performance polymers to the global market. These colored grades combine BASF’s Ultrason® polyarylethersulfones (PAES) as a top-quality base polymer with Avient’s Colorant Chromatics™ expertise in high-temperature color formulations for color concentrates and pre-colored solutions. This collaboration offers customers in industries such as household and catering, electrical & electronics (E&E), and healthcare a comprehensive range of technical support, from the base polymer to the final-colored product. As a result, customers can respond swiftly to design trends, meet technical requirements and color standards, and accelerate time-to-market.

The full-color Ultrason® portfolio also contributes to a more sustainable lifestyle by enabling the creation of reusable, high-quality, and aesthetically pleasing household and catering articles. These products can be reused by consumers and circulated by caterers multiple times, maintaining performance and design. Consequently, they promote a circular economy, reducing single-use plastics and minimizing packaging waste associated with conventional catering, take-away, and to-go items.

“The market demand for colored, high-performance polymers necessitates rapid response and the ability to supply colored materials in various volumes,” says Anne Hippert, General Manager of Colorant Chromatics at Avient. “Through this collaboration, we can provide the best of both worlds in high-performance polymers. Avient is renowned for its specialized color solutions that meet the customers’ specific application requirements, and BASF is highly regarded for its exceptional Ultrason® quality and extensive material expertise. Together, we are committed to bringing innovative PAES products to the market, addressing color challenges across multiple industries. In particular, Ultrason® is an ideal fit for our customers’ sustainability initiatives by offering attractive colors for reusable and safe applications.”

“Avient’s Colorant Chromatics business is recognized for its strong and agile color solutions for specialty polymers, while BASF is a well-established producer of high-quality Ultrason®,” adds Florian Hennenberger from Global Business Development Ultrason® at BASF. “Through our collaboration, we can now offer customized colors with Ultrason® as the base material to both existing and new customers. By leveraging the global networks of both companies, along with Avient’s color formulation expertise and BASF’s broad material portfolio and competency, this collaboration will streamline and simplify product development for our customers.”

Avient and BASF have a longstanding history of collaboration in the field of polyarylethersulfones. This latest phase of cooperation enables the companies to better meet the demand for orders of varying sizes and with short lead times, serving diverse industries. The colored grades will be formulated and marketed by Avient as Colorant Chromatics™ made with Ultrason® by BASF.
