(IN BRIEF) TotalEnergies has successfully acquired Ombrea, a leading French agrivoltaics company. Ombrea, established in 2016, specializes in integrating agriculture and solar power generation. With this acquisition, TotalEnergies aims to accelerate the development of agrivoltaic projects in France and worldwide, offering solutions to farmers for combining solar power with agricultural production while addressing climate change challenges. The acquisition will also support TotalEnergies’ portfolio of 1.5 GW of agrivoltaic projects in compliance with French renewable energy regulations. Over forty Ombrea experts, including its founders, will join TotalEnergies’ agrivoltaics team at Ombrea’s Aix-en-Provence location.

Ombrea, founded in 2016, has established ten sites and conducted research on nearly fifty crop varieties, cultivating unique expertise and innovative solutions that optimize the synergy between agricultural production and green electricity generation.

By incorporating Ombrea’s experienced teams and specialized knowledge into its renewable energy endeavors, TotalEnergies is poised to expedite the advancement of agrivoltaics, both within France and globally. Operating under the Ombrea brand, TotalEnergies will provide the agricultural community with comprehensive solutions for the harmonious integration of solar power and agricultural activities. These solutions encompass strategies to safeguard against adverse weather conditions, sustain or enhance crop yields, and adapt to the challenges posed by climate change.

This strategic acquisition will also enable TotalEnergies to fast-track the development of its portfolio of 1.5 GW of agrivoltaic projects, aligning with the criteria outlined in the French Renewable Energy Acceleration Law enacted in March 2023.

With this integration, TotalEnergies welcomes over forty experts from Ombrea, including its founders, Christian Davico and Julie Davico-Pahin. These experts will join TotalEnergies’ dedicated agrivoltaics team at Ombrea’s Aix-en-Provence site, which will serve as the focal point for the company’s agrivoltaics division. This development marks a significant step toward advancing sustainable and innovative solutions at the intersection of agriculture and renewable energy.
