Thales and Trablisa Successfully Implement Cutting-Edge Surveillance System for Enhanced Border Control in Melilla

(IN BRIEF) Thales and Trablisa, two leading European companies, have successfully implemented an Integrated Surveillance System at the Melilla Command of the Civil Guard for advanced border control. The project, completed in under seven months, involved the installation of fixed surveillance stations equipped with high-resolution day and night cameras and sensors. Thales’ thermal cameras and their custom-developed monitoring software, HORUS, enable centralized management and image processing. This system represents a significant upgrade in border surveillance for Melilla, benefiting both Spain and Europe.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 13-Dec-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — A groundbreaking collaboration between Thales (EPA: HO), a French multinational company active in the aerospace, defence, transportation and security markets, and Trablisa, the leading Spanish security company, has culminated in the successful deployment of the Integrated Surveillance System at the Melilla Command of the Civil Guard, marking a significant leap forward in intelligent border control.

On November 9, the Civil Guard officially received and approved the dossier, signifying the successful completion of the administrative phase. The newly installed system stands as a monumental enhancement in both the quality and quantity of surveillance resources at Melilla’s borders, resulting in a comprehensive integrated surveillance infrastructure.

Miguel Bueno, the project manager, expressed his satisfaction, stating, “We are very pleased to contribute to improving border surveillance in the city of Melilla with an integrated system. The complex location of the surveillance systems, the coordination of different partners, the acquisition of the best performing equipment and the tight deadline for implementation have been some of the challenges of the project, which has been achieved thanks to the collaboration and alignment of all parties involved including the Melilla CG command itself“.

The Innovative Integrated Surveillance System Remarkably, this ambitious project was completed in less than seven months, a testament to the dedication and expertise of the teams involved. It entailed extensive refurbishment work, station installation, and the establishment of a robust communications network to ensure seamless image distribution.

The core of this system consists of strategically positioned fixed surveillance stations, providing the Civil Guard with comprehensive land and maritime coverage for intelligent border control in Melilla. The system boasts high-resolution day and night cameras, along with an array of sensors. Notably, the night vision cameras utilized are Thales thermal cameras, and the monitoring and control software, known as HORUS, was developed entirely by Thales’s expert team in Spain. This software enables centralized management and control of all sensors and actuators, as well as image processing capabilities.

The Integrated Surveillance System promises unmatched reliability and will undoubtedly contribute significantly to the enhancement of border surveillance in the critical city of Melilla. This achievement is pivotal to the interests of both Spain and Europe.
