VINCI Highways Invests in Climate Resilience: Enhancing Lima’s Expressways to Mitigate El Niño Flooding

(IN BRIEF) VINCI Highways, operating through its subsidiary Lima Expresa, is undertaking infrastructure improvements to enhance the resilience of two expressways in Lima, Peru. The project aims to mitigate the risk of flooding, especially during the El Niño phenomenon. The initiative is executed in two phases, with the first phase underway from August 2023 to January 2024. It involves reinforcing both banks of the Rimac River by installing deep ground anchors and applying shotcrete to stabilize the embankments, covering a total of 100 meters on both sides of the river. The second phase, scheduled for the summer of 2024, will further fortify the embankments by injecting concrete into piles below the riverbed and installing anti-wear metal plates at the base of the embankments. Additionally, Lima Expresa has been conducting riverbed cleaning and protective wall elevation activities while collaborating with local authorities to enhance preparedness and coordination for the upcoming months.
