(PRESS RELEASE) BONN, 25-Jan-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Deutsche Post DHL Group (ETR: DPW), a German multinational package delivery and supply chain management company, is proud to announce a landmark agreement with RWE Supply & Trading for a decade-long supply of approximately 104 gigawatt-hours of renewable electricity annually, starting in 2026. This significant step marks DHL Group’s unwavering commitment to its decarbonization objectives and reinforces its position as a sustainability pioneer in the logistics industry. The renewable energy will be sourced from the operational Kaskasi offshore wind farm in the German North Sea, operational since early 2023. This Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signifies DHL Group’s dedication to securing sustainable energy solutions, covering approximately 19 percent of its current annual electricity consumption in Germany.

Anna Spinelli, Chief Procurement Officer at DHL Group, commented on the agreement, stating, “The contract with RWE is another important step on our path towards net-zero-emission logistics by 2050. The long-term agreement with our energy partner ensures the credible green electricity supply for our operations and is a measure to support the renewable energy transition. This is an example of how fostering proactive supplier relationships can contribute to a more sustainable and positive ecosystem”

DHL Group has earmarked up to seven billion euros for sustainability initiatives by 2030, underscoring its relentless commitment to making the entire logistics chain as sustainable as possible. The adoption of green electricity is a pivotal element in reducing greenhouse emissions, complementing the company’s efforts in sustainable fuels, electric fleet expansion, climate-neutral building development, and a green product portfolio. Through this enduring partnership with RWE, DHL Group secures high-quality renewable electricity alongside the corresponding environmental attributes, under stable conditions.

Hendrik Niebaum, Head of Commodity Solutions at RWE Supply & Trading, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are delighted to be able to support DHL Group, a leading logistics company, in achieving its ambitious climate protection goals and making a decisive contribution to the success of the energy transition. This partnership shows how RWE’s energy solutions can contribute to climate protection in all sectors of the economy. In addition, long-term contracts like this offer security and predictability for both parties.”

Situated 35 kilometers off the coast of Helgoland in the German North Sea, the Kaskasi offshore wind farm represents RWE’s sixth wind farm in the region. Adjacent to the RWE wind farms Amrumbank West and Nordsee Ost, Kaskasi boasts 38 turbines with an installed capacity of 342 megawatts, part of which is not commercially available. This means the wind farm can supply approximately 400,000 households with green electricity. Notably, a portion of the plant is equipped with the world’s first recyclable rotor blades, exemplifying RWE’s commitment to sustainability.
