(IN BRIEF) Borealis has launched the Borealis Scientific Innovation Award (BSIA) to accelerate the circular transformation and promote sustainable progress. The award aims to recognize innovative ideas from academia, start-ups, scale-ups, engineers, and chemical engineers. Submissions are open until September 5, 2023, focusing on three areas: reducing greenhouse gases using renewables, sustainable manufacturing technologies and polyolefins, and carbon-neutral production of hydrocarbons. A panel of Borealis research representatives will select three winners who will receive a certificate, financial awards, a trip to Linz, Austria, and the opportunity for exposure and networking.

(PRESS RELEASE) VIENNA, 14-Jul-2023 — /EuropaWire/ —  Borealis, an Austrian chemical company active in the fields of polyolefins and the European front-runner in polyolefins recycling, base chemicals and fertilizers, is delighted to announce the launch of the Borealis Scientific Innovation Award (BSIA). This prestigious award aims to accelerate the circular transformation and drive sustainable progress.

As a company that has already prioritized sustainability as a core business objective, Borealis recognizes the ongoing need for fresh thinking and innovative solutions to achieve a fully circular and sustainable future. The BSIA celebrates innovation and provides a platform for ideas that have the potential to make a positive impact on the world. By encouraging dedication and diligence, the award aims to expedite the circular transformation and foster sustainable progress.

Previously known as the Borealis Student Innovation Awards, which exclusively focused on students for a decade, this year’s competition has been expanded to include academia and the scientific community at large. The inclusion of start-ups, scale-ups, engineers, and chemical engineers broadens the field of talent and innovative ideas, increasing the potential for global impact.

Applicants are invited to submit their peer-reviewed scientific publications or theses presenting novel ideas in one of the following areas by September 5, 2023:

  1. Reduction of greenhouse gases using renewables.
  2. Sustainable manufacturing technologies and the use of polyolefins.
  3. Carbon-neutral production of hydrocarbons.

A panel of esteemed Borealis research representatives will meticulously evaluate the submissions and select three winners. Successful applicants will be notified of their results on September 18, 2023, and will be invited to present their work in person at the recognition ceremony held at the Borealis Innovation Headquarters in Linz, Austria, on October 17, 2023.

The winners will receive a certificate, a financial award (EUR 5,000 for first place, EUR 2,000 for second place, and EUR 1,000 for third place), a fully-funded trip to Linz, Austria, courtesy of Borealis, and the invaluable opportunity for exposure and networking.

“The Borealis Scientific Innovation Award provides not only a valuable platform for great minds to be discovered and make a true global impact, but also an opportunity for Borealis to inspire and be inspired through collaborative efforts outside of the company. Together, we can shape the future of the world and encourage the transformation towards a more sustainable, circular model”, says Thomas Gangl, CEO Borealis.
