Adapting to New Priorities: BASF SE’s Executive Board Realignment

(IN BRIEF) BASF SE, a global chemicals and materials company, has announced strategic changes in the responsibilities of its Board of Executive Directors. Dr. Stephan Kothrade will take on additional roles as Chief Technology Officer and oversee Group Research, effective January 1, 2024. He will also be responsible for various regions and projects from March 1, 2024. Dr. Katja Scharpwinkel will assume the role of Industrial Relations Director and take charge of the Europe region, starting February 1, 2024. Dr. Dirk Elvermann, the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Digital Officer, will also lead BASF Venture Capital from January 1, 2024. These changes aim to optimize leadership roles within the company, ensuring alignment with evolving priorities.

(PRESS RELEASE) LUDWIGSHAFEN, 20-Dec-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — BASF SE (ETR: BAS), the world’s largest chemical producer, announces that following the decisions made by the Supervisory Board of BASF SE on December 20, 2023, several key changes in responsibilities within BASF’s Board of Executive Directors have been unveiled:

Effective January 1, 2024, Dr. Stephan Kothrade, a Board member, will take on additional responsibilities, including Group Research and the role of Chief Technology Officer, succeeding Melanie Maas-Brunner. Dr. Kothrade will also oversee Greater China; South & East Asia; ASEAN & Australia/New Zealand; and Mega Projects Asia, effective March 1, 2024.

On February 1, 2024, Dr. Katja Scharpwinkel will assume the role of Industrial Relations Director of BASF SE. Furthermore, she will take charge of the Europe region, taking over from Stephan Kothrade.

Dr. Dirk Elvermann, a member of the Board, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Digital Officer, will additionally oversee BASF Venture Capital GmbH, starting January 1, 2024.

As of March 1, 2024, the following responsibilities within the Board of Executive Directors will come into effect:
