(PRESS RELEASE) LUDWIGSHAFEN, 20-Dec-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — The Supervisory Board of BASF SE (ETR: BAS), the world’s largest chemical producer, acting upon the proposal of the Nomination Committee, has put forth the nomination of Tamara Weinert (58) for election as a shareholder representative on the Supervisory Board. This nomination comes as an important step, with the election scheduled to take place at the Annual Shareholders’ Meeting of BASF SE on April 25, 2024.

Tamara Weinert, currently serving as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Business Area Americas at Outokumpu in the United States, is the chosen nominee to succeed Dame Alison Carnwath (70). Dame Carnwath has been a dedicated member of BASF’s Supervisory Board since May 2014. However, she has decided not to seek re-election due to her tenure, which would no longer qualify her as independent as per the criteria outlined in the German Corporate Governance Codex for another four-year term.

Dr. Kurt Bock, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BASF SE, commented on the nomination, stating, “With Tamara Weinert, we have been able to find an experienced and competent leader as a candidate for election to the Supervisory Board of BASF SE. She will strengthen the diversity and independence of the Board.” The primary objective in the selection process is to ensure qualified oversight and guidance for the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE.

Tamara Weinert holds an MBA in Finance from Manchester Business School, United Kingdom, and an MSc in Protected Landscape Management from the University of Greenwich, United Kingdom. Her professional journey commenced at Deutsche Bank, where she held various positions across Europe and Asia. Since 2021, Tamara Weinert has been serving as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Business Area Americas and is a member of the Leadership Team at Outokumpu, a globally recognized supplier of sustainable stainless steel. Weinert brings proven expertise in finance, risk management, sales, and a wealth of operational and strategic management experience from her international roles, including a focus on circular solutions such as recycling in the steel industry.
