Yara’s Durban plant awarded AA1000 certification for social and ethical standards

(PRESS RELEASE) OSLO, 2-Oct-2020 — /EuropaWire/ — Norwegian chemical company, Yara announces that its Industrial Solutions plant in South Africa has been awarded an AA1000 certification for social and ethical standards.

It’s the first business within Yara, and only the second company on the African continent to gain this acknowledgement. AA1000 is an internationally accepted, principles-based framework that guides organizations through the process of identifying, prioritizing, and responding to sustainability challenges, with the goal of improving long-term performance.

“It means an awful lot to us,” says Plant Manager and Managing Director, Richard Baker. “We were assessed on how we do business, how we treat employees, our recruitment and HR policies, training and development – it’s about fairness and impartiality at the plant,” he explains.

AccountAbility’s AA1000 Series of Standards are used by global businesses, private enterprises, governments, and other public and private organizations to demonstrate leadership and performance in accountability, responsibility, and sustainability.

Certification is dependent not only on how a business demonstrates equality and sustainability, but also on how it addresses inequality and drives continuous improvement.
