Yara Launches YaraAmplix™ Biostimulants to Enhance Crop Resilience Amid Climate Challenges

(IN BRIEF) Yara, a global agricultural solutions provider, has introduced a new brand of biostimulants called YaraAmplix™ to help farmers combat the challenges posed by climate change on crop production. These biostimulants are formulated with natural ingredients such as seaweed and plant extracts to enhance crop resilience, nutrient use efficiency, and overall yield quality. YaraAmplix™ complements Yara’s fertilizer portfolio, offering a comprehensive crop nutrition solution. The products will initially launch in China, Brazil, and France by the end of 2023, with a global rollout planned for 2024. Yara’s investment in research and development aims to make biostimulants a key tool in reducing food loss due to climate-induced stresses and promoting sustainable agriculture.

(PRESS RELEASE) MILAN, 29-Nov-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Yara International ASA, a global firm specializing in agricultural products and environmental protection agents and a leading global ammonia player, is launching YaraAmplix™, a brand of biostimulants aimed at helping farmers worldwide tackle the adverse effects of climate change on crop production. Rising global temperatures have led to increased risks to crops like maize, tomatoes, and wheat, making agriculture more vulnerable to extreme weather conditions. YaraAmplix™ biostimulants, based on natural ingredients such as seaweed and plant extracts, enhance crop resilience, nutrient use efficiency, and overall yield quality. The launch, announced at the Biostimulant World Congress in Milan, reflects Yara’s commitment to empowering farmers to overcome climate-related challenges and contribute to regenerative agriculture. The YaraAmplix™ portfolio, which has seen significant growth in recent years, is set to expand further in 2024. YaraAmplix™ is part of Yara’s broader efforts to create a nature-positive food future by addressing climate, soil health, resource use, biodiversity, and prosperity. The biostimulant products will initially be rolled out in China, Brazil, and France by the end of 2023, with a global expansion planned for 2024.

Svein Tore Holsether, CEO of Yara, emphasized the importance of biostimulants in helping farmers combat extreme weather conditions and enhance crop resilience. “Extreme weather is destroying crops all over the world with drought, flooding and frost. Biostimulants helps farmers make their crops stronger, and more resilient to stress from climate change. Farmers are the first line of defense against food insecurity, and we are adapting to their needs with solutions that allow them to prosper when the environment is not always on their side.”

Over the last five years, Yara has developed a range of biostimulant products with unique formulations aimed at stimulating plant metabolism and performance. The portfolio primarily consists of products with natural ingredients, designed to enhance tolerance to abiotic stress, improve nutrient utilization, and boost crop yield and quality. These biostimulants complement Yara’s fertilizer portfolio, offering a comprehensive crop nutrition solution.

Yara’s investment in research and development continues to drive innovation in biostimulant formulations suitable for various crops and regions, addressing specific agricultural challenges. Biostimulants have shown promising results in independent trials, with an average yield increase of 7.5% and a 74% success rate over control treatments based on data from 2018 to 2020.

YaraAmplix™ is set to play a pivotal role in Yara’s mission to create a nature-positive food future by contributing to reduced greenhouse gas emissions and improving nutrient use efficiency, essential for ensuring sustainable and profitable farming practices. The brand will initially be available in select markets, with a global rollout planned for 2024.

Rejane Souza, SVP Global Innovation, emphasized Yara’s dedication to regenerative agriculture and its ambition to lead in the biostimulants sector in the future. Biostimulants offer a critical tool for reducing food loss due to climate-induced stresses while making agriculture more sustainable. “Popular foods we all rely on, such as tomato, maize, soybean, and citrus to name a few, are at increased risk of yields loss due to extreme weather, so lowering greenhouse gas emissions to avoid a worsening scenario is key. As part of the solution, biostimulants are an essential tool to help reduce loss of food due to climatic stresses while improving nutrient use efficiency, a critical lever when it comes to enabling farmers to keep their business profitable and sustainable. The launch of YaraAmplix emphasizes even more our focus on regenerative agriculture and that is why we intend to take on a leading position of biostimulants in the future.”

With its extensive crop nutrition expertise spanning over a century, Yara aims to provide farmers with the tools they need to navigate the challenges posed by climate change and contribute to a more resilient and sustainable global food system.
