Underwater IoT Breakthrough: Fincantieri and WSense Sign Collaboration Agreement

(IN BRIEF) Fincantieri, a leading shipbuilding company, and WSense, a specialist in underwater monitoring and communication systems, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in the field of Underwater Internet of Things (UIoT). This partnership will explore various areas of cooperation, including underwater communications, relative positioning of unmanned vessels, and cloud solutions for the Defense sector. Fincantieri aims to leverage its century-long experience in submarine construction to lead in this emerging field, while WSense sees this collaboration as a chance to position itself as a key player in Italy’s underwater monitoring and control systems ecosystem. The partnership is seen as a significant step towards advancing innovation in the Internet of the Seas and strengthening Italy’s strategic position in the Blue Economy sector.

(PRESS RELEASE) ROME, 21-Dec-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Fincantieri S.p.A., one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups, and WSense, a deep tech company specializing in underwater monitoring and communication systems, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to initiate a partnership in the Underwater Internet of Things (UIoT) sector.

Under this MoU, the two companies will explore potential areas of collaboration, including adaptive underwater communications and its associated multimodal network. They will also focus on developing solutions for measuring the relative positioning of unmanned surface and underwater vessels and cloud-based solutions within the Defense sector. This collaboration will leverage WSense’s extensive experience in civilian applications and may involve other specialized operators.
