(IN BRIEF) TÜV Rheinland, a leading testing and certification company, has opened a new textile testing laboratory in Derbyshire, UK. The facility offers a range of services including Fibre Composition Analysis, colour fastness testing, and physical and mechanical testing. It is one of only four laboratories in the UK capable of conducting such analyses, eliminating the need for outsourcing. The laboratory provides an all-in-one solution for textile companies, reducing logistics and shipping costs while ensuring compliance with BS EN ISO 1833 standards. TÜV Rheinland’s expansion strengthens its commitment to the UK market and reinforces its reputation as a trusted partner for quality assurance and compliance in the textile industry.

(PRESS RELEASE) COLOGNE, 6-Jun-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — TÜV Rheinland, one of the world’s leading testing service providers and a leading provider of technical services for rail transport, has announced the opening of a new textile testing laboratory in Derbyshire, UK. The state-of-the-art facility expands the company’s testing portfolio in the UK and offers a comprehensive range of services.

With the new laboratory, TÜV Rheinland now provides Fibre Composition Analysis, in addition to its existing colour fastness testing, physical, mechanical, and stability testing capabilities. This makes TÜV Rheinland one of only four laboratories in the UK equipped to offer this analysis, eliminating the need for sub-contracting testing services abroad.

“It is obligatory that textile products in the EU and UK are labelled to declare the fibre composition”, explains Joanne Brown from TÜV Rheinland. Labels must be firmly attached to products and must detail the fibre composition percentages with clear text, uniform lettering and a clear separation between the information on textile composition and other information, such as product care. “This is to create full transparency for customers regarding fibre composition of textiles.” Furthermore, this is to ensure compliance to the Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council on textile fibre names and related labelling and marking of the fibre composition of textile products.

The establishment of the laboratory strengthens TÜV Rheinland’s commitment to the UK market and enhances its ability to deliver mandatory, legal testing within the BS EN ISO 1833 standards for textile companies and clients. Previously, businesses had to engage multiple laboratories from different suppliers, resulting in logistical challenges and increased shipping costs. Now, TÜV Rheinland provides a convenient all-in-one solution, streamlining the testing process and reducing environmental impact.

The new textile testing laboratory underscores TÜV Rheinland’s dedication to providing comprehensive and efficient services to the UK textile industry, reinforcing its position as a trusted partner for quality assurance and compliance.
