TÜV Rheinland laboratories in Cologne and Yokohama accredited by The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)

COLOGNE, 30-May-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has accredited the TÜV Rheinland laboratories in Cologne and Yokohama as Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs). This is an important step in offering customers perfect service for the US market. OSHA is responsible for occupational safety and health in the United States and its work includes issuing product standards for electrical devices so that they meet the national statutory safety requirements. It also conducts audits to ensure that testing service providers are capable of taking into account these standards during their certification processes. Until 2016, this was possible only for facilities on American soil, but audits have now been performed outside the USA for approximately a year.

Sought-after sign of quality
“When we carry out certification, it guarantees that the customer’s product fulfills the specific safety standards applicable in the US market,” explains Thomas Haupt, a product safety expert at TÜV Rheinland. “Although compliance with these standards is not mandatory for market launch, it is often requested in invitations to tender. Large companies in particular appreciate when products have been tested to applicable safety standards by a service provider accredited by OSHA.”

Tailor-made processes for every market
Certifying products with regard to all significant aspects in the customer’s intended market is a comprehensive support service provided by TÜV Rheinland, partly by means of its market access service (MAS). No matter where in the world, our experts work right from the planning phase to ensure that the product satisfies all the necessary requirements and that there is nothing standing in the way of a successful market launch. The global network of laboratories enables rapid response times and extremely flexible customer support. “The OSHA guidelines are well known and have been integrated in our processes for some time. Things become more complicated when it comes to newer, less familiar markets. To deal with this, our MAS team is developing processes tailor-made to suit customer objectives,” says Haupt.
