(PRESS RELEASE) FRANKFURT, 30-Sep-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — KfW Development Bank has just announced it has appointed Prof. Dr Jochen Kluve (47) as head of its Financial Cooperation’s (FC) evaluation department. Prof. Kluve is an economics professor at Humboldt University of Berlin with proven international expertise in labour market and development economics and in evaluation research. He will succeed Prof. Dr Eva Terberger, who is retiring from KfW after 13 years as head of the department.

Commenting on the appointment, Prof. Dr Joachim Nagel, Member of KfW Group’s Executive Board, said:

“Prof. Dr Kluve is a well-known academic with an international profile and proven experience in labour market and development economics as well as evaluation research. These are the optimal conditions for the independent evaluation of Financial Cooperation programmes and projects. We look forward in particular to his expertise and knowledge of the empirical methods used in evaluation research, which is of great importance for measuring the effectiveness of our work within the scope of Financial Cooperation with developing countries and emerging economies.”

The evaluation department is responsible for caring out evaluations of FC projects and programmes once they are completed. This is needed for reasons of accountability, quality assurance and to learn from these analyses for future projects. KfW Development Bank’s Financial Cooperation’s (FC) evaluation department is an independent staff unit within the bank and is responsible for these evaluations. The department reports directly to the member of the Executive Board responsible for international financing.

Commenting further on Dr Kluve’s appointment, Prof. Dr Joachim Nagel, added:

“The appointment of Prof. Dr Kluve, a well-known and respected figure in development policy circles, is an ideal precondition for continuing to satisfy this claim to credibility and independence.”

Today, Prof. Dr Kluve holds the director position of the office of the Leibniz Institute for Economic Research (RWI) in Berlin and is a professor in the economics department of the Humboldt University of Berlin. His focus is on research, teaching and policy consulting in the area of impact evaluation of labour market and development economics. Prof. Dr Kluve has worked on many research projects and expert opinions for, among others, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
