European Parliament Celebrates Europe Day with Interactive Program for Citizens

(IN BRIEF) The European Parliament is celebrating Europe Day on May 6th by inviting citizens to its Brussels premises for a day filled with interactive presentations, live performances, debates with MEPs, and other activities. The day will start with an inauguration ceremony in the EP Hemicycle featuring a live performance by Ukrainian singers, followed by a panel discussion with MEPs on various topics, including the 2024 European elections and Parliament’s political priorities. Throughout the day, citizens can attend information sessions, guided tours, and watch live broadcasts by Radio Vivacité and the European Parliament’s in-house radio. The Parliament’s doors will be open from 10:00 to 17:30, with all public areas and meeting rooms accessible to citizens.

(PRESS RELEASE) BRUSSELS, 4-May-2023 — /EuropaWire/ —  The European Parliament, the EU’s only directly-elected institution and one of the legislative bodies of the European Union, is excited to celebrate Europe Day on May 6th by inviting citizens to its premises in Brussels for a day filled with interactive presentations, live performances, debates with MEPs and much more.

Starting from 10:00, citizens are welcome to visit the Parliament’s public areas and meeting rooms, with the last entrance at 17:30. The Parliament is thrilled to offer a diverse program of events for citizens to enjoy throughout the day.

The day will commence with an inauguration ceremony at the EP Hemicycle, featuring a live performance by Ukrainian singers at 10:30. Following the performance, Vice-President Pina Picierno (S&D, Italy) will give an address, and a panel discussion with MEPs will take place, discussing the 2024 European elections, Parliament’s political priorities for the next legislature, and answering questions from citizens.

Citizens are invited to attend information sessions on Parliament’s flagship programs, including the “Youth Hub” and together.eu at the EP Info Hub at 12:30, 14:30, and 16:30. Additionally, guided art tours of the Parliament’s art collection will take place at 12:30, 13:00, 14:30, and 15:30, starting from the welcome stand. After the ceremony, guided tours of the Hemicycle will also be available from 12:30.

Visitors will have the opportunity to watch a live broadcast by Radio Vivacité (RTBF radio) from the Parliament’s VoxBox from 10:30 to 15:00, with presenters Philippe Jauniaux and Hugues Hamelynck. Furthermore, the European Parliament’s in-house radio will broadcast live from Parliament’s premises throughout the day, featuring discussions with MEPs and citizens.

For media personnel, all public areas and meeting rooms will be accessible throughout the day, with the press room facilities open from 9:00 to 18:00. Audiovisual recording is permitted on site, except for the security area.
