(PRESS RELEASE) BÆRUM, 18-Feb-2022 — /EuropaWire/ — DNV, the independent energy expert and assurance provider, has announced it has been designated as a UK Approved Body for UKCA marking of Hazardous Area Equipment and Construction Products following a successful accreditation by UKAS, the UK Accreditation Body. Most products currently covered by CE marking will require the new UKCA marking by 2023 and manufacturers must act now to ensure continued UK market access.
Already a UK Approved Body for the UK Pressure Equipment Regulations, DNV is now able to provide manufacturers of Hazardous Area Equipment and Construction Products (Structural Metallic Products & Ancillaries) with conformity assessment in order for them to be able to apply the UKCA mark and make their products available for sale in the UK.
“The UK market is hugely important to DNV and our customers around the world. This designation allows DNV to continue to provide our customers with combined conformity assessment activities for the largest markets. With a combined assessment, DNV can assess manufacturers to requirements of multiple jurisdictions at the same time for CE, UKCA and other marking,” says Otto Hughes – Director Industrial Product Assurance, DNV. “As part of the designation process, we have increased our capacity both within, and outside the UK in order to support manufacturers with this transition in 2022.”
The UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) marking allows the UK to have control over its goods regulations, maintaining the high product safety standards expected in the UK. The UKCA marking replaces the product safety labelling the UK previously used while a member of the EU, such as the CE mark.
The UKCA marking covers most categories of goods which previously required CE marking, which is accepted by the UK until 1 January 2023. The exception is medical devices, where businesses will not need to use the UKCA marking until 1 July 2023.
