Deutsche Telekom Revolutionizes Telephony with Cloud Migration Success

(IN BRIEF) Deutsche Telekom has achieved a groundbreaking transition by migrating its IP-based voice telephony platform to the cloud, centralizing landline connections through cloud data centers in Germany and migrating over seventeen million customer connections. Facilitated by the NIMS platform (Next Generation IP Multimedia Subsystem), developed in collaboration with partners such as Juniper Networks, Mavenir, Microsoft, HPE, Red Hat, and Lenovo, this project represents a significant industry advancement. The move enables optimized service provision through a software ecosystem, leading to enhanced flexibility, speed in introducing new features, and capacity expansion. This success has sparked interest from other network operators, setting a new benchmark in the telecommunications sector.

(PRESS RELEASE) BONN, 16-Feb-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Deutsche Telekom has successfully transitioned its IP-based voice telephony platform to the cloud. Landline connections are now centrally controlled from cloud data centers in Germany. Over seventeen million customer connections have been migrated. Billions of voice minutes are now handled entirely through the NIMS platform (NIMS: Next Generation IP Multimedia Subsystem) with around 100 interconnect partners.

Thanks to disaggregation, services can be provided through an optimized solution portfolio of software modules from a wide ecosystem of industry partners. The near-complete automation of the Telco Cloud provides a more efficient process, leading to significantly more flexibility and speed in the introduction of new service features and capacity expansion.
