British Gas Expands Smart Home Charging Solutions with Hive EV Charger for Electric Cars

Developed in partnership with EO Charging, the charger offers improved control and cost management for EV charging. The Hive EV charger is available for purchase at £1,199, including installation by British Gas. Standalone charger sales are priced at £439. (PRESS RELEASE) WINDSOR, 30-May-2023 — /EuropaWire/ —  Centrica (LON: CNA), a British multinational energy services and solutions provider, announces that British Gas has unveiled the Hive EV charger as its latest addition to the range of smart home charging products. Developed in collaboration with EO Charging, a prominent UK-based EV charger manufacturer, this compact charger, about the size of an A5 notebook, offers electric vehicle owners enhanced control and management over their charging process and costs.

The introduction of the Hive EV charger comes as British Gas conducted research revealing that 39% of respondents are willing to install a home charger for their electric vehicles, highlighting the growing interest in home charging options.

Customers will benefit from the new British Gas tariff, which provides off-peak electricity at a rate of under 10p per kWh between 12am and 5am, allowing for more cost-effective EV charging.

The Hive EV charger is part of British Gas’ commitment to supporting customers on their journey towards achieving net-zero emissions.

For £1,199 including VAT, customers can purchase the Hive EV charger with installation arranged by British Gas. Alternatively, there is an interest-free credit option available at £119 per month. The standalone charger can be purchased for just £439 including VAT. British Gas offers a 3-year warranty when installation is arranged through them, and a 2-year product guarantee for standalone charger sales. As an added incentive, British Gas and Hive provide £100 credit back on the first energy bill for customers who switch to the British Gas EV tariff. Additionally, upon completion of a charger installation, new and existing Hive EV charging customers will receive £50 Hive vouchers to spend on any Hive technology.
