wpd Achieves Wind Energy Milestones in Sweden and Finland

(IN BRIEF) wpd, a leading developer of onshore wind energy projects in Europe, has achieved significant milestones in Sweden and Finland. In Sweden, they’ve commissioned the Stöllsäterberget wind farm and secured contracts for future projects. In Finland, wpd is progressing with infrastructure work for the Maaselänkangas wind farm and has projects in the pipeline. These developments underscore wpd’s commitment to renewable energy in Northern Europe.

(PRESS RELEASE) BREMEN, 12-Mar-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — wpd AG, a German developer and operator of wind farms on- and offshore and solar parks, continues to make significant strides in the development of onshore wind energy projects in Northern Europe. With wpd Scandinavia in Stockholm, Sweden, and wpd Suomi in Espoo and Oulu, Finland, the company maintains its position as a top performer in the region’s renewable energy market.

In Sweden, the recent commissioning of the Stöllsäterberget wind farm marks a milestone, boasting a total capacity of 47.2 MW across Dalarna and Värmland provinces. Leveraging its expertise in Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), wpd secured a contract with Microsoft for direct purchase of the green electricity generated, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

Environmental approval for the Ripfjället project, located northwest of the Stöllsäterberget wind farm, sets the stage for future expansion. Additionally, wpd Scandinavia successfully secured the grid connection for the Broboberget-Lannaberget project, poised to deliver up to 740 MW of installed capacity and an estimated 1.5 TWh of green energy.

Furthering its footprint in Sweden, wpd is on track to sign a grid connection agreement for the Råliden wind farm project, while progress on the Tomasliden project remains steady with turbine installation set to commence in June.

In Finland, wpd reports promising developments with the Maaselänkangas wind farm nearing completion of infrastructure work, positioning it for turbine installation later this year. Additionally, wpd’s Finnish projects Söderskogen and Palovaara are primed for construction, having secured legal permits and grid connection contracts.

Paul Bade, Country Manager at wpd for Northern Europe, expressed pride in the team’s accomplishments, citing “Our teams at wpd Scandinavia and wpd Suomi Oy are doing really great things. There are currently wind farm projects with a total capacity of almost 1.7 GW in the wpd project pipeline for Northern Europe. We are an established player in the market for renewable energies in Sweden and Finland.”

Looking ahead, wpd is actively exploring photovoltaic projects in Finland and Sweden, further solidifying its commitment to advancing the energy transition in Northern Europe.
