Sustainable Infrastructure Expert Mikael Karlsson Nominated for Equinor ASA Board Seat

(IN BRIEF) Equinor ASA’s nomination committee proposes Mikael Karlsson as a new member of the company’s board of directors, aiming to expand the board to 11 members following the departure of Michael Lewis. Karlsson, currently a partner and Vice Chairman at Actis Capital, brings extensive experience in sustainable infrastructure investment. The election will take place during Equinor’s corporate assembly meeting on March 20, 2024, with Karlsson’s appointment effective from April 1, 2024, until the next ordinary election in June 2025.

Following the departure of Michael Lewis in March 2023, the board has operated with 10 members, with a desire to increase to 11.

Mikael Karlsson brings a wealth of experience to Equinor, currently serving as partner and Vice Chairman of Actis Capital, a global leader in sustainable infrastructure investment. Previously, he held the position of Chief Investment Officer at Actis from 2021 to 2023, and prior to that, he served as partner and Head of Energy and Infrastructure from 2015 to 2021. Karlsson’s extensive career also includes a six-year tenure as CEO of Globeleq, an Actis portfolio company, and various roles at ABB Energy Ventures.

Educated in the United States and Sweden, Karlsson holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts and a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering and Management from Linköping Institute of Technology.

The election for Equinor’s board of directors will take place during the corporate assembly meeting on Wednesday, March 20, 2024. If approved, Karlsson’s appointment will be effective from April 1, 2024, until the ordinary election of shareholder-elected members in June 2025.
