(IN BRIEF) RWE Clean Energy has signed eight long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Dominion Energy Virginia for seven solar projects, totaling over 300 MW of capacity. The solar energy generated from these projects will power more than 70,000 homes in Virginia. The portfolio includes projects already operational, under construction, and under development. RWE Clean Energy will serve as the long-term owner-operator of each project. This collaboration supports Dominion Energy Virginia’s commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. RWE Clean Energy, with approximately 8 GW of installed capacity, is a leading renewable energy company in the U.S. and the second-largest solar owner and operator.

(PRESS RELEASE) AUSTIN, TX, United States, 18-Jul-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — RWE Clean Energy, a leading renewable energy company, has entered into eight power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Dominion Energy Virginia for seven solar projects in the state. These projects, totaling over 300 megawatts (MW) of capacity and capable of generating more than 750,000 megawatt hours of energy, will provide solar power to over 70,000 homes in Virginia.

Mark Noyes, CEO of RWE Clean Energy, expressed enthusiasm for contributing to Dominion Energy’s goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. He highlighted RWE’s extensive experience in delivering high-quality solar energy projects and providing customized solutions to customers while optimizing costs.

The utility-scale project portfolio includes the already operational Pleasant Hill Solar (20 MW) in the City of Suffolk and Watlington Solar (20 MW) in Halifax County. The Wythe County Solar (75 MW) project, currently under construction, is expected to be online in 2024. Four additional projects, Switchgrass Solar (69 MW), 360 Solar (52 MW), Groves Solar (15 MW), and Harrisonburg Solar (15 MW), are in various stages of development. These projects will diversify Virginia’s energy landscape and support a reliable energy grid, benefiting Dominion Energy Virginia’s customers by enabling increased carbon-free electricity generation at reduced costs.

Each project has a PPA with Dominion Energy Virginia, and RWE Clean Energy will act as the long-term owner-operator. RWE Clean Energy’s Water Strider Solar, an 80 MW project in Halifax County, which came online in Q2 2021, also has a PPA with Dominion Energy Virginia.

In addition to the utility-scale projects, RWE Clean Energy has eight distributed energy resource (DER) PPAs for 24 MW, all contracted with Dominion Energy Virginia. Together, this comprehensive portfolio will have the capacity to power over 70,000 homes in Virginia.

RWE Clean Energy, with an installed capacity of about 8 gigawatts, is the fourth-largest renewable energy company in the U.S. and the second-largest solar owner and operator. The company’s strong position in renewable energy results from the integration of RWE Renewables Americas and Con Edison Clean Energy Businesses, which RWE acquired in March 2023.
