(PRESS RELEASE) DÜSSELDORF, 19-Apr-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Rheinmetall AG (ETR: RHM), a German integrated technology group active in the automotive and defence industries, is pleased to announce that its joint venture with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), Projekt System & Management GmbH (PSM), has been awarded a contract by Germany’s Federal Office for Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) to retrofit 143 Puma infantry fighting vehicles. This contract exercises two options contained in the contract signed in June 2021 to retrofit original Puma vehicles to the new S1 design status.
The contract, valued at approximately €770 million, ensures that every Puma in the Bundeswehr inventory will conform to the uniform S1 design status by 2029. The retrofit includes the integration of high-resolution day- and night-capable camera systems, the MELLS multirole-capable lightweight guided missile system, and digital radio equipment.
Rheinmetall, through its joint venture with KMW, will continue to work closely with BAAINBw to deliver high-quality and reliable solutions that meet the evolving needs of the German armed forces.
