Partnership Between Guiné Bissau and Eni to Drive Environmental and Health Initiatives

(IN BRIEF) The Government of Guiné Bissau and Eni have signed a Memorandum of Intent (MoI) to explore collaboration opportunities in various areas, including exploration, climate solutions, agriculture, sustainability, and health. The MoI aims to promote sustainable growth, protect forests, enhance land management, support agriculture, and evaluate offshore exploration potential. In the healthcare sector, joint initiatives are underway to strengthen emergency and intensive care services, improve maternal and child health, and provide essential medical equipment. This partnership aligns with Guiné Bissau’s priorities and Eni’s commitment to supporting a just transition in African countries.

(PRESS RELEASE) MILAN, 18-May-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Eni S.p.A. (BIT: ENI), an Italian multinational energy company with focus on innovation, efficiency and accessibility for all, and the Government of the Republic of Guiné Bissau have officially signed a Memorandum of Intent (MoI) to explore areas of collaboration in various fields, including exploration, climate solutions, agriculture, sustainability, and health.

The primary objective of this Memorandum is to evaluate sustainable growth solutions in the environmental sector and support the development of local communities. Key initiatives to be assessed include forest protection, sustainable land management, agriculture, and the use of agricultural residues for agri-feedstock.

The MoI also includes the evaluation of exploration potential in Guiné Bissau’s offshore area.

In the realm of healthcare, the Government of Guiné Bissau and Eni have already identified a joint initiative to strengthen emergency and intensive care services. As part of this effort, an initial supply of essential medical equipment has been delivered to the Ministry of Health. Additionally, Eni Foundation, the dedicated arm of Eni for health initiatives, is conducting a feasibility study to support the Ministry of Health in enhancing maternal and child health in Guinea Bissau.

This MoI aligns with the Guiné Bissau Government’s priorities to invest in health, education, infrastructure, and agriculture. It also reflects Eni’s commitment to supporting a just transition in African countries.
