Marcel Levi Re-elected Vice-President on the Renewed Board of Science Europe

(IN BRIEF) Marcel Levi, NWO board chair, has been re-elected as vice-president on the newly constituted board of Science Europe, a European partnership of research funders and performers. His two-year term will extend until November 2025. Levi was previously a member of the Science Europe board and assumed the role of vice-president in February of the current year. With the expiration of the board’s term in November, a new board was elected, and Levi was chosen to continue his role as vice-president. In his capacity, Levi aims to promote research and international cooperation within Europe, focusing on areas such as fostering a healthy research culture and seamless collaboration. Science Europe is dedicated to advancing research culture and policy in Europe, with NWO as one of its co-founders, comprising 40 members from 30 countries.

(PRESS RELEASE) THE HAGUE, 1-Dec-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Marcel Levi, NWO board chair, has been re-elected vice-president on the renewed board of Science Europe, the European partnership of research funders and performers, for a two-year term, until November 2025.

Levi was already a member of the board of Science Europe and was appointed vice-president of the board in February this year, succeeding Ángeles Gómez Borrego. This appointment ran until November 2023. Also in November, the term of the current board expired. Based on elections, a new board was chosen for Science Europe, in which Levi will again take a seat as vice-president: ‘I am delighted to continue this role at Science Europe and hope to make further strides in research and international cooperation within Europe together with my colleagues in the coming period. Within Science Europe, NWO is working with sister organisations on ambitions from the NWO strategy, especially in the areas of a healthy research culture and unimpeded collaboration,’ Levi said.

The board of Science Europe gives direction to the organisation and consists of ten members, including two vice-presidents and one president. Mari Sundli Tveit (RCN, Norway) will assume the role of president for the next two years and Javier Moreno Fuentes (CSIC, Spain) will be vice-president like Levi. The other board members are: Katarina Bjelke (VR, Sweden), Adrian Curaj (UEFISCDI, Romania), Anna Di Ciaccio, (INFN, Italy) Milica Đurić-Jovičić (SFRS, Serbia), Christof Gattringer (FWF, Austria), Matthias Koenig (DFG, Germany) Christopher Smith (UKRI, United Kingdom).
