AFRY Chosen to Conduct Environmental and Social Impact Assessments for Indonesia’s 500MW Solar PV Projects

(IN BRIEF) PT PLN Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company PT PLN, has enlisted AFRY to perform Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) for five large solar photovoltaic (PV) projects situated on Java Island. These projects play a crucial role in Indonesia’s efforts to transition to cleaner energy sources. The ESIAs, conducted in line with international standards such as the ADB Safeguards and IFC Performance Standards, will encompass three floating solar PV systems and two ground-mounted PV plants, with a total capacity of 500MW. This initiative is part of Proyek Hijaunesia 2023, a broader renewable energy program introduced by PT PLN Indonesia Power to expedite the adoption of renewable energy, including solar and wind power projects. AFRY, with extensive experience in environmental and social advisory services in Indonesia, aims to support the country’s sustainable energy transition and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The partnership builds on AFRY’s history of involvement in over 5 GW of renewable energy and power sector projects in Indonesia, solidifying its position as a key consultant in the region’s renewable energy sector.
