Berlin Completes Rollout of New S-Bahn Fleet Enhancing Public Transport Service

(IN BRIEF) Berlin celebrates the completion of its new S-Bahn fleet with all 106 trains now in service, offering passengers enhanced comfort and convenience. These state-of-the-art trains feature air conditioning, advanced passenger information systems, and security cameras, providing a significant upgrade to the city’s public transport system. The increased transport capacity in parts of the S-Bahn network and longer trains on key lines, such as the Ring lines S41/S42 and the extended S8 line during peak hours, offer benefits to commuters. The project, financed by the states of Berlin and Brandenburg, was realized through a consortium of Stadler and Siemens, and the new trains have already covered around 17 million kilometers in service. Berlin’s commitment to improving public transport aims to make rail travel an attractive option for more residents and reduce reliance on cars.

(PRESS RELEASE) BERLIN, 19-Sep-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Representatives from politics, business, the Berlin-Brandenburg Transport Association (VBB) and the Berlin S-Bahn gathered at the Charlottenburg S-Bahn station for the ceremonial delivery of the last train in this tranche. The states of Berlin and Brandenburg are financing the purchase of the trains, which were manufactured by a consortium of Stadler and Siemens.
