(PRESS RELEASE) HAMBURG, 6-Feb-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Beiersdorf AG (ETR: BEI), a German multinational company that manufactures personal-care products and pressure-sensitive adhesives, is delighted to announce its inclusion in CDP’s prestigious “Triple A List” for the second consecutive year, cementing its position as a sustainability frontrunner among corporations worldwide. Out of over 21,000 companies that submitted their environmental data for evaluation, Beiersdorf is proud to be one of only ten companies to achieve the highest rating for 2023.

This significant recognition reflects Beiersdorf’s unwavering commitment to environmental excellence and its dedication to reducing its ecological footprint across the entire value chain. Vincent Warnery, CEO of Beiersdorf AG, expressed his pride in this achievement, saying, “We are proud to be recognized with CDP’s top rating once again. It affirms our strong efforts to improve the environmental performance of our product portfolio and decarbonize our business as a whole. It’s a testament to our conviction to drive the sustainability transformation of our industry while exciting our consumers and delivering exceptional results.”

Each year, CDP, a non-profit organization formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project, evaluates companies’ environmental disclosures using rigorous criteria that encompass the management of environmental risks, data completeness, and commitment to ambitious sustainability targets. “Our Sustainability Agenda CARE BEYOND SKIN and its environmental pledges are built on science,” explains Jean-François Pascal, Vice President Sustainability at Beiersdorf AG. “Our climate target, for instance, is validated by the Science Based Targets initiative and aims to reduce CO2e emissions by 30% absolutely across scopes 1-3 until 2025. This is a leading commitment within our industry.”

Gitta Neufang, Corporate Senior Vice President Global R&D at Beiersdorf AG, adds, “We don’t shy away from transforming even our most iconic skincare products on a global scale, with more sustainable ingredients and packaging solutions. This allows us to lower our carbon footprint significantly.” Notably, one of these products that has recently undergone comprehensive revamping is NIVEA Soft, which now contains 100% natural jojoba oil and boasts a remarkable 98% biodegradability rate. This evolved formulation results in approximately 40% fewer CO2e emissions, marking a significant step towards a greener future.

In 2023, Beiersdorf reached a significant milestone on its climate care journey with the inauguration of its state-of-the-art production center in Leipzig, Germany. The facility adheres to the highest environmental and sustainability standards and operates in a carbon-neutral manner, thanks to the use of renewable electricity and biogas for heat generation. Beiersdorf’s ambitious plans include transforming this plant into an “Energy+” site, generating more sustainable energy than it consumes.

In its ongoing commitment to preserving forests as a natural climate change mitigation strategy and a source of biodiversity, Beiersdorf has strengthened its partnership with the WWF Germany. Together, they have extended their project in the Indonesian province of West Kalimantan, with the goal of certifying a farmer group of 200 members according to the international Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) standard by 2026.

Last but not least, Beiersdorf recognizes the pivotal role water plays in its skincare product formulas, both in production processes and during product use. Collaborating with WWF Germany, Beiersdorf is actively engaged in Water Stewardship, encompassing responsible planning and management of water resources through stakeholder-inclusive processes, including site and catchment-based actions. Under its strategic partnership with WWF Germany, Beiersdorf has conducted a comprehensive water risk analysis and is set to implement long-term water targets along the entire supply chain in the near future.

Beiersdorf’s continued dedication to environmental sustainability, coupled with its innovative approach to product development and production, has solidified its place on CDP’s “Triple A List” for 2023, reinforcing its leadership in the pursuit of a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
