German Council of Economic Experts will be appointed as National Productivity Board

(PRESS RELEASE) WIESBADEN, 11-Apr-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — The German Council of Economic Experts will be responsible for the National Productivity Board in Germany. The assignment has come from the federal government as a response to a recommendation by the Council of the European Union originally published on 20 September 2016.

The national productivity boards will aim at providing independent analyses on the developments in the fields of productivity and competitiveness in the member states. This will also include analyses of the long-term drivers of economic development, and the conditions under which productivity and competitiveness can be increased. Furthermore, these boards will also provide insights on how innovation and the ability to attract investment, businesses and human capital can be encouraged.

This analysis will also include insights from broad consultation process at the national level as well as from regular exchanges and intensive cooperation at the European level.

Since its establishment, The German Council of Economic Experts (GCEE) has been dealing with the topics productivity and competitiveness in its annual reports and is now looking forward to taking over this task. Starting with the 2019/20 annual report, the GCEE will annually also have these topic (productivity and competitiveness) covered.
