(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 3-Feb-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The Leverhulme Trust is thrilled to announce the winners of the 2023 Leverhulme Doctoral Scholarships. These awards enable universities to fund up to 18 Leverhulme Doctoral Scholars in an interdisciplinary priority research area.

This year, the Trust Board increased its commitment to the scheme. It offered additional scholarship places to support Black and low-income students to undertake a master’s plus doctoral programme and up to three scholarships in each award for international students. Applications were also accepted from consortia of a maximum of two universities to increase the reach of the scheme and the diversity of institutions the Trust funds.

Chairman of the Leverhulme Trust, Niall FitzGerald, said: ‘We want to offer richly rewarding, not to mention personal and society transforming careers to the best and brightest students, no matter their background or where they come from.’

Director of the Leverhulme Trust, Professor Anna Vignoles, said: ‘We are proud to offer these new opportunities to students whose research is often bold, innovative and edgy and has the potential to make our world of tomorrow a better place.’

In this round, eleven grants were awarded. The quality of the applications was exceptionally high, and selecting these eleven was correspondingly challenging.
