Leadership Transition at Vattenfall: Martijn Hagens to Head Business Area Markets

(IN BRIEF) Martijn Hagens has been appointed as the new Senior Vice President and Head of Business Area Markets at Vattenfall, a major European energy company. He will succeed Anna-Karin Stenberg, who is leaving the company later this year. Martijn Hagens, with 20 years of experience at Vattenfall, will start his new role by January 1, 2024. He will continue reporting to Vattenfall’s CEO, Anna Borg, remain on the Executive Group Management team, and continue as Managing Director of Vattenfall N.V. Netherlands. The process to find a successor for Martijn Hagens has already begun. Anna-Karin Stenberg, who has been with Vattenfall for eight years, is transitioning to a new phase in her career and will ensure a smooth handover.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 9-Oct-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Vattenfall, a Swedish government-owned multinational power company, is pleased to announce the appointment of Martijn Hagens as the new Senior Vice President and Head of Business Area Markets. Martijn Hagens will succeed Anna-Karin Stenberg, who has decided to step down later this year. He is set to assume his new role no later than January 1, 2024.

Martijn Hagens brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having dedicated 20 years of his career to Vattenfall, holding various leadership roles within the organization. Prior to joining Vattenfall, Hagens had a successful stint at Accenture. Currently, he holds the position of Senior Vice President and Head of Business Areas Customers & Solutions and Heat. Additionally, he serves as the Managing Director of Vattenfall N.V. Netherlands.

In his new capacity, Martijn Hagens will continue to report directly to Vattenfall’s CEO, Anna Borg. He will remain an integral member of the Executive Group Management team, ensuring continuity and a seamless transition. Moreover, Hagens will retain his role as Managing Director of Vattenfall N.V. Netherlands.

The process to identify a suitable successor for Martijn Hagens is already underway and reflects Vattenfall’s commitment to ensuring a smooth leadership transition.

Anna-Karin Stenberg, who has dedicated eight years to Vattenfall, has made the decision to embark on the next phase of her career. She will work diligently to facilitate an efficient handover process.
