High Representative/Vice President Catherine Ashton appoints the new Head of the EU Delegation to the Russian Federation

Brussels, 5-2-2013 — /europawire.eu/ —  Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice President of the Commission, announced today the appointment of Vygaudas Usackas the new Head of Delegation to the Russian Federation.1

Mr Usackas has, since 2010, been posted as Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in Afghanistan. Prior to that, he followed a distinguished diplomatic career in Lithuania, including as Ambassador, first to the United States of America, and subsequently to the United Kingdom, before serving ultimately as Foreign Minister of Lithuania.

Catherine Ashton said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Usackas as Head of our Delegation in Moscow. This is a key position in the European External Action Service. Vygaudas Usackas has done an exceptional job for us in Afghanistan and I look forward to working with him in this new role.

To complete the appointment, an accreditation request for a new Head of Delegation is sent to host country. The selected candidate may take up duty only once accreditation of the host country has been granted.
