VINCI Highways and the Colombian National Infrastructure Agency Major planted over 3000 native trees as part of reforestation program in Colombia

(PRESS RELEASE) RUEIL-MALMAISON CEDEX, 14-Sep-2020 — /EuropaWire/ — VINCI Concessions, a leading concessions operator and part of Vinci SA, has announced that led by VIA 40 Express and VINCI Highways have collaborated with the Colombian National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) for the planting of more than 3 388 native trees in the municipalities of Soacha and Sibaté as part of an environmental compensation and reforestation program, due to construction work.

Cherry trees, citrus, peaches, myrtles, oaks and black cedars, are part of the 1,142 trees planted by forest compensation, on two hectares of land, and 2,246 trees planted as part of ecological rehabilitation. The main goal? Preserving and protecting the humid forest and the rich ecosystem of the area, as well as conserving natural resources. The compensation measures, which were carried out since October 2019, are now under the meticulous maintenance of VIA 40 Express, which operates the Bogotá-Girardot highway.

This motorway is of vital importance to the economy and life in the surrounding regions. It is the country’s busiest road, stretching from the Pacific coast to the centre of the capital, Bogotá.

Apart of this kind of environmental initiatives, VINCI Highways is also carrying out a great number of initiatives in the area to put back into the community and help the environment like the creation of the “Vía Esperanza” program, in collaboration with the Colombian Red Cross. This humanitarian aid space in the Bogotà-Girardot road corridor has assisted 8000 walkers, the vast majority of whom are migrants, 2300 being underage and 130 being pregnant mothers.
