ŠKODA AUTO aims for more growth in China and further expands its model offering in the country. 2012 AUTO GUANGZHOU (November 22nd through December 02nd)will see the China debut of the economical ŠKODA Superb GreenLine. In addition, the brand will display its models currently on offer in China, the Fabia, Octavia and Superb, on its 1,156 sqm stand in hall 1.2.

ŠKODA’s success in China has continued in 2012. From January through October, deliveries to Chinese customers rose 7.3 per cent to 204,800, well in excess of the figure for last year’s period.

The new ŠKODA Superb GreenLine: especially efficient
The ŠKODA Superb GreenLine will see its China debut in Guangzhou. The GreenLine version will make the model line even more attractive and efficient in China. The Superb GreenLine’s fuel consumption is only 6.0 l/100 km, equivalent to CO2 emissions of 142 g/km. The model comes standard with a start-stop system und recuperation. Also contributing to improving efficiency are special tyres optimised for low rolling resistance.

Powering the Superb GreenLine is a 96 kW (130 HP) 1.4-litre TSI engine. A “normal” ŠKODA Super 1.4 TSI DSG set a fuel economy record in China in late 2011, becoming the first car to reach Beijing from Shanghai on less than a tank full of petrol.

Since its introduction in 2009, the Superb saloon has been very popular with Chinese customers, becoming the bestselling model in its segment in 2011. To date, (as at October 31st, 2012) ŠKODA has sold about 132,000 Superb in China.

In the years ahead, ŠKODA is set to push for more growth in China. Under the largest model offensive in the company’s history, the ŠKODA Yeti compact SUV and the new ŠKODA Rapid compact saloon will be introduced in China in 2013. From 2013, both models will be made at the facilities of the company’s Chinese partner, Shanghai Volkswagen. This will raise the number of model lines in China from three to five. The two new models are to provide the brand with added tailwind in China. Both cars belong to important growth segments. The Chinese market is a central element of ŠKODA’s 2018 growth strategy. The brand aims to raise worldwide sales to at least 1.5 million per year by 2018. Especially contributing to this goal will be the regions of Russia, India and China.

ŠKODA’s current model line-up is doing very well in China. In the first ten months Chinese deliveries of the Fabia, Octavia and Superb models rose significantly year on year, with the Octavia ŠKODA’s bestselling model in the country, selling 125,000. Since 2007, ŠKODA has sold almost 525,000 Octavias in China.

The brand also grew worldwide so far this year despite a partly difficult environment: in the first ten months, ŠKODA deliveries rose 7.2 per cent to a new record high of 795,100. In the first nine months of 2012, sales revenue rose 3.1 per cent to 7.9 billion euros. Operating profit in the same period, at 567 million euros, was on a par with last year. These figures show that ŠKODA is successfully implementing its 2018 growth strategy both worldwide and in China.

ŠKODA in China: five year of success in the market
2012 marks ŠKODA having been present in the Chinese market for exactly five years. At the time, the first model to be offered in China was the Octavia, followed by the Fabia in 2008 and the Superb in 2009. Since its entry on the market, the brand raised annual sales in China to more than 220,000 in 2011. This makes the country the strongest ŠKODA market overall.
