(PRESS RELEASE) BAAR, 29-May-2019 — /EuropaWire/ — Sika starts production of concrete admixtures at its plant in Doha, Qatar. Due to large-scale infrastructure investment and a number of mega projects, both ongoing and planned makes Qatar an attractive market.
Sika expands its presence in Qatar with its own production facility following the establishment of the national subsidiary in 2012. The company positions itself as a provider of high-performance product technologies that are now manufactured on a local basis and close to customers. The main office and a central storage facility will be located at the site, alongside production lines for concrete-admixture manufacturing.
“The optimization of our supply chain will enable us to play an even greater role in major construction projects in Qatar. Having our own production capacities available locally makes it possible for us to lower transportation costs and enhance proximity to customers,” comments Ivo Schädler, EMEA Regional Manager.
INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS DRIVING THE CONSTRUCTION SECTOR
Qatar is expanding its transport and energy infrastructures with roads, ports, railroads, and power plants, as well as investing in stadiums and related infrastructure for the 2022 Soccer World Cup. Doha Metro, a rapid transport system linking the capital with its suburbs, is one important major project and the gas sector is also attracting large-scale investment. Qatar’s construction industry is expected to have an average annual growth of more than 9% until 2023.
