(PRESS RELEASE) COVENTRY, 3-Jul-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — The University of Warwick is spearheading an initiative to revitalize Coventry’s automotive legacy and empower future innovators through a Transport Museum Takeover. On July 6th, 2023 academics from various departments at the university will host 100 students from 10 local schools at the city’s iconic Transport Museum. The event aims to provide children from less advantaged backgrounds with an immersive and interactive learning experience, bridging the gap between their hometown’s history and innovative concepts in STEM subjects.

During the takeover, Year 8 students from across Coventry will step out of their classrooms and delve into the museum’s exhibits, discovering the rich history of their city in a vibrant and engaging environment. The initiative aims to ignite curiosity and inspire young minds by bringing science to life. Students will have the opportunity to explore intriguing topics such as robotics, battery manufacturing, and solar-powered transport.

The Transport Museum Takeover aligns with the University of Warwick’s commitment to widening participation and encouraging children from diverse backgrounds to engage with higher education through innovative learning approaches.

Professor Robin Clark, Dean of WMG, expressed the significance of the event, stating, “The transport museum takeover is a unique opportunity for children to connect with the history of their city. By opening its doors to academics, the museum offers a distinct experience for children to get excited about the past, present, and future of innovation and STEM.”

Dr. Karen Kudar, leading the Fluid Dynamics exhibit, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, saying, “I am thrilled to be part of such an exciting endeavor. By welcoming students from Widening Participation schools, we can challenge ourselves as experts and work to ignite excitement in future generations about our subjects. Through interactive activities involving wing sections, a dog hairdryer, and a touch of mathematics, we will explore how engineers overcome challenges to make even the heaviest of airplanes fly.”

The Transport Museum Takeover not only honors Coventry’s automotive legacy but also serves as a platform for inspiring young learners and fostering their interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
