Loughborough University to host ATP Challenger Tour event in partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association

Leicestershire, UK, 14-Mar-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) has today announced the creation of a new $100,000 ATP Challenger Tour event, to be staged at Loughborough University.

The event is one of two new ATP Challengers to be added to the calendar and will be hosted at the Loughborough University Tennis Centre from May 19-27. The tournament will be staged indoors on hard courts, featuring a 32 singles main draw and 32 qualifying with 16 doubles teams. The event will also provide invaluable ATP ranking points and high quality playing opportunities for British players.

This new tournament will provide high-level competition in the heart of Leicestershire ahead of the much anticipated British Tennis grass court season, which also features the Nottingham Open just a stone’s throw from Loughborough.

LTA Head of Men’s Tennis and Davis Cup Captain Leon Smith said:

“It’s great news that we’re creating more playing opportunities for British players in the UK. These Challenger events are invaluable in providing high quality match experience as well as the opportunity to build up important ATP ranking points. Hopefully we can see some high-level performances from our Brits at these events.”

Loughborough University Tennis Director Helen Reesby commented:

“We are absolutely delighted to be hosting an ATP Challenger $100k event at Loughborough University, in partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association.  Following on from the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters in November, we look forward to welcoming and showcasing some of the best players in the world once again, for what I anticipate will be another outstanding week of tennis.”

Tickets will be available in due course.
