(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 30-Sep-2022 — /EuropaWire/ — Siemens AG (ETR: SIE), a German multinational conglomerate and Europe’s largest industrial manufacturing company, has announced that Siemens Global Business Services (GBS), its business services operator, will appoint Eckard Eberle as its new CEO, in effect as of October 1, 2022. Eckard Eberle, 57, will succeed Hannes Apitzsch, 64, who has led GBS since 2019 as CEO and is entering retirement after more than 40 years with the company. Hannes Apitzsch will continue to support Siemens in an advisory capacity until December 31, 2022.

“I’m delighted that such an experienced manager as Eckard Eberle will be leading Siemens Global Business Services going forward. With his focus on expanding the customer base and driving forward the digital transformation, he is the ideal person to boost the value that GBS contributes to Siemens,” said Judith Wiese. “On behalf of the whole Managing Board, I’d like to thank Hannes Apitzsch very much for his many years of dedicated service to our company. His relentless drive to develop people and teams, and his unwavering commitment to the health and growth of Siemens were outstanding,” she continued.

As CEO of the Process Automation Business Unit at Siemens Digital Industries, Eckard Eberle has been responsible since 2014 for the areas of development, production and quality management as well as for the sale of products, solutions and systems for automation in the process industry. Having held various management positions inside and outside Germany, Eberle, who holds a degree in electrical engineering, brings broad experience in many business fields at Siemens.

“GBS is a great business. I see plenty of potential here, and I am looking forward to shaping the next phase and driving the ongoing development of our services and solutions. GBS makes a key contribution to the value and productivity of the entire Siemens Group. We also leverage digitalization to improve our customers’ business success and to sharpen our own competitive edge,” explained Eckard Eberle.

Beginning in 2019, Hannes Apitzsch transformed GBS from an internal service provider into a highly efficient powerhouse for innovative business services. “I’m very pleased to be handing GBS over to Eckard Eberle, who will take GBS forward successfully. In recent years, GBS has evolved into a competitive and professional business services organization, making a key value contribution for the Siemens Group,” said Hannes Apitzsch.
