Siemens Launches Sinamics G220 Frequency Converter with Clean Power Technology and Digital Twin Capability

The new Sinamics G220 frequency converters are the first Sinamics drives to be part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio.

(IN BRIEF) Siemens has announced the launch of Sinamics G220, a new high-performance frequency converter with clean power technology that reduces harmonics by up to 97 percent without the need for additional chokes. It is the first Sinamics drive to be part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, enabling digital twin capability, and an integral part of the TIA portal. The Sinamics G220 is equipped with an IIoT module for easy integration into cloud and edge applications and comes with a range of hardware options and software functions for flexible adaptation to different application cases. The new frequency converter is suitable for various industries, especially food and beverage, pharmaceutical, chemical, oil and gas, and marine industries, and provides secure communication and user management for added cybersecurity.

(PRESS RELEASE) NUREMBERG, 27-Mar-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Siemens AG (ETR: SIE), a German multinational conglomerate and Europe’s largest industrial manufacturing company, is set to unveil the Sinamics G220, a new high-performance frequency converter with clean power technology, ahead of Hannover Messe 2023. The innovative frequency converters reduce harmonics by up to 97 percent without the need for line harmonic chokes or DC link chokes, making them significantly more efficient in terms of space utilization and operation.

The Sinamics G220 is also the first Sinamics drive to be part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, which is the company’s business platform for digital transformation. The frequency converters are an integral part of the TIA portal and have a digital twin in Startdrive, the commissioning tool for drives. This allows for testing and optimization of the drive behavior before hardware is available, resulting in reduced commissioning times.

The Sinamics G220 is also equipped with an IIoT module, which enables easy integration into cloud and edge applications, increasing the transparency of their applications and optimizing availabilities while avoiding downtimes. Security Integrated is standard in the Sinamics G220, providing secure communication, integrity and authenticity checks to protect against tampered firmware, as well as user management and access control for added cybersecurity.

The Sinamics G220 comes with a range of hardware options and software functions, allowing for flexible adaptation to different application cases. The new frequency converters are suitable for various industries, especially food and beverage, pharmaceutical, chemical, oil and gas, and marine industries. With special coatings available for harsh environments and reaching SIL 3 requirements in terms of Safety Integrated, the Sinamics G220 is designed for a long service life.

Siemens’ new Sinamics G220 frequency converter sets a new standard for frequency converters in terms of efficiency, adaptability, and safety, offering greater convenience and flexibility to a wide range of industries.
