Aalborg University ranked the best university in Europa and the eighth best university worldwide for engineering

Aalborg, Denmark, 01-Nov-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — Aalborg University is ranked the best university in Europa and the eighth best university worldwide for engineering according to the Best Global Universities list published by U.S. News and World Report.

In the subject-specific rankings, Aalborg University has risen from No. 18 to an impressive eighth place among the world’s top universities for engineering. In this leap, AAU has overtaken both Stanford University and Georgia Tech. This ranks AAU as the best European university for engineering; a position which Danish companies may benefit from.

AAU’s management is delighted with the impressive rankings.

‘This is a good day for AAU, and we are proud that our talented engineering researchers and staff have secured this prestigious position. I’m also pleased to see that we have taken massive leaps in other disciplines too. This reflects the development we are currently undergoing in which we focus on making our mark on the international scene,’ says Rector Per Michael Johansen.

AAU has not only improved within the field of engineering; the University has also risen significantly in other rankings. For example, AAU has leapfrogged from No. 376 to No. 290 among the world’s 17,000 universities;  and the University has also climbed the rankings within computer science, social sciences and public health and clinical medicine.

The three deans representing engineering at AAU are also proud of the new ranking results.

‘This is proof that we are among the best in the world; that we have strong research environments, a strong educational model – PBL – and strong collaboration partners. It is also the result of a long, hard slog of working towards creating a unique engineering profile for Aalborg University,’ says Dean Mogens Rysholt Poulsen, the Faculty of Engineering and Science.

‘With this top ranking I expect we’ll be able to attract even more strong international profiles to our already strong research environments,’ says Mogens Rysholt Poulsen.

U.S. World News & World Report’s ranking list of the best global universities is one of the oldest and most influential of its kind.
