(PRESS RELEASE) DÜBENDORF, 6-Apr-2023 — /EuropaWire/ — Empa, the Swiss research institute for applied materials sciences and technology, announces that the Swiss Museum of Transport has launched a new exhibition called “Experience Energy!” at its purpose-built “House of Energy” in Lucerne, which was officially opened on April 3. The “Experience Energy!” exhibition was created in collaboration with Empa and other institutions of the ETH Domain, with a focus on promoting an ongoing exchange between research and society. The Swiss Museum of Transport is the most visited museum in Switzerland, with the new exhibition aimed at being a platform for dialogue with visitors. The exhibition is dedicated to the topic of energy, which is the basis of mobility, and sees itself as a means to promote cross-generational dialogue on the Energy Strategy 2050.

Brigitte Buchmann, Member of Empa’s Directorate and Head of the Department of Energy, Mobility and Environment, supported the exhibition as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board and emphasized the importance of such a dialog: “The climate targets and the transformation of the energy system affect us all. It is all the more crucial to make the connections understandable and to show individual options for action.”

As part of the Joint Initiative “Energy Science for Tomorrow,” the Swiss Museum of Transport will continue to work with ETH Zurich, EPFL, Empa, and the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) to develop the exhibition in the “House of Energy” over the coming years. This cooperation will enable the research expertise of the institutions of the ETH Domain to flow into interactive exhibits and joint activities.

Additionally, the Swiss Museum of Transport will host the second Powerfuel Week from May 13 to 21, which will be supported by Empa. The event is a conference, trade fair, and exhibition dedicated to hydrogen and synfuel technologies. Empa researcher Christian Bach, head of the Automotive Powertrain Technologies lab, will be speaking at the Powerfuel Conference on May 16 about the current state of research into synthetic fuels.
