NAFMII grants lead underwriting license for non-financial corporate Panda bonds to Standard Chartered Bank

SHANGHAI, China, 01-Feb-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — Standard Chartered Bank (China) Ltd. has today announced it has received a lead underwriting license for non-financial corporate Panda bonds from the National Association of Financial Market Institutional Investors (NAFMII). A Panda bond is a Renminbi-denominated bond issued in mainland China by a foreign (in respect of China mainland) incorporated issuer.

Jerry Zhang, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice-Chairwoman of Standard Chartered China, remarked: “We are privileged to receive this license during UK Prime Minister Theresa May’s first state visit to China. This will enable Standard Chartered to make more contributions to the China Interbank Bond Market by further promoting diversification of both the issuers and investors, standardisation of transaction structure and healthy development of this critical market.”

Wesley Yang, Head of Financial Market of Standard Chartered China, said: “China’s debt capital market has great potential for development, and Panda bonds are an indispensable part in this blueprint. With the license granted, we can leverage on our global network strengths to bring in high-quality issuers, globally accepted underwriting and pricing practices, as well as channeling overseas investment into the China interbank bond market to further contribute to the internationalisation and professionalisation of the inter-bank bond market.”
